Norway continues addressing food and veterinary recommendations

The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) has today published an updated Country Profile for Norway. ESA’s assessment shows that Norway has made progress regarding official controls in the food and veterinary area.

ESA prepared and published Norway’s Country Profile in June 2023 following a general review audit. It presents an overview of ESA’s assessments of Norway’s follow-up on recommendations made by ESA in audits carried out between April 2018 and November 2022.

The updated Country Profile reflects actions taken since the previous version was published last year.

Based on information provided by Norway, ESA has closed additional 17 recommendations since June 2023. Norway has addressed 37 out of a total of 53  recommendations covered by the 2023 general review audit, including all recommendations from an audit on the protection of animals at the time of killing.

ESA performs general review audits every three to four years in Iceland and Norway. These are done to verify that the States have implemented satisfactory corrective actions to address ESA’s recommendations following audits of the food and feed safety, animal health and welfare sectors. Country Profiles for Iceland and Norway are updated regularly to summarise the performance of the EEA EFTA States.
